A life remembered
A Tribute to DeVille
From: Your Brother (DeVon)
DeVille, I want to thank you. For being who you were, it made me who I am. For your dedication to succeed at everything you’ve done. Your ambition to be the best father of 5 wonderful boys, and your ability to see the potential in me when I didn’t. Within these years, I’ve learned that every day the sunrises is a blessing, an opportunity to make our life and anyone around us better. Thank you and we love you for all your contributions and sacrifices to this world and we will forever carry on your legacy. “Gotta keep the family together”
From: Your Sister (Daje”)
I remember that dreadful day, waking to the beast-time stopped, the news reckless-a beautiful boy amazing but deceased…I heard my heart shatter, and my soul screamed a cry- the couler the detail I remember like yesterday, but I just wished I’d have said a final goodbye…Ruthless pain I hide so deep inside, I wish I could take you just once with me for a ride. Because I don’t remember if I even held you and now, I can’t even call you or even hear your voice. But I need to tell you I still love you. Yes, I know I need to let go but I can’t just let you go. I need to hold you in my arms, in my life just one more time because my heart is broken from not saying goodbye. I’m sorry I never said goodbye or held you the day you died WHY OH WHY did I not say goodbye. But my love is here with the tears–I miss you my brother dear. I love you DeVille!!
Son (Momma here) You are the great impact…!
You always wanted to make a BIG impact in your lifetime, and you did–you gave gifts of life everywhere…!
Someone has a heartbeat because of your heart. No more dialysis for a young man because of your kidney. A young lady just celebrated a 42nd birthday because of your liver and someone can SEE their life because of your corneas. Not only did you change their lives, but you also changed ours as well. We live everyday as you did–with purpose–purpose and intent to make a difference in our everyday lifestyle. We are forever grateful and your mother loves you till my last breath.

Lenita (Eldest Sister from Dad)
In 2022, I found out that the man I had just connected with was my biological father. That one revelation changed my life forever. It led me to discovering an entire family I never knew I had—including my little brother, Deville.
The hardest part is that we never got the chance to meet.
From everything I’ve heard, you were an entrepreneur, a leader, a man with a big heart who loved his family and left an impact on everyone around you. It seems like we had so much in common, and I can’t help but wonder what our relationship would have been like. I wish we could have shared conversations, laughed together, and simply been brother and sister.
I would have loved to help love on and pour into my five nephews. I pray they’ll know one day that they have an aunt who already loves them, even though we haven’t met yet. And I look forward to embracing the rest of our family when the time is right.
Everyone tells me that Luggie, DeVon, and I favor each other so much. I can only imagine how emotional it would have been to finally see your face and recognize pieces of myself in my little brother.
Writing this message to you has stirred up so much more than I expected. It has reopened the grief of losing my Granny, my Momma, and the daddy who raised me all within weeks of one another. Those losses changed me. They make me want to hold on tightly to every person I have left… but if I’m honest, they also make me want to keep my distance sometimes. Because loving people so deeply means risking the unbearable pain of losing them, and that can feel overwhelming.
But I know love is still worth it.
So instead of letting grief close my heart, I’ll let it remind me to love harder, forgive quicker, and cherish every moment we’re given.
Little brother, I’m grateful that God allowed me to know who you were, even if it was later than I would have wanted. Your story is now part of mine, and your legacy lives on through your sons and everyone whose life you touched.
Until we meet someday…
And one more thing… you’re always welcome to stop by and say hello. Just don’t scare your big sister! 😂❤️🕊️

Deville, in the short time that I got to know you, I was overwhelmed by your respect, kindness and love for your Auntie Lisa. Remembering you always.
Uncle Kenny
My dear nephew, DeVille,
There are some people whose lives cannot be measured by the number of years they lived, but by the love they gave, the lives they touched, and the legacy they left behind. You are one of those rare souls.
When I think of you, I don’t simply remember your smile or your face, I remember your spirit. I remember a young man with limitless potential, a heart that mattered, and a life that continues to echo in the hearts of those who were blessed to know you. Though your journey on this earth ended far too soon, your impact did not. Love like yours doesn’t disappear; it lives on in every memory, every story, every tear, and every smile that follows your name.
As your uncle, I wish I had more time with you. More conversations. More laughter. More opportunities to watch you continue becoming the remarkable man God created you to be. Yet I find comfort in knowing that while our time together was brief, eternity is forever. I believe with all my heart that death does not have the final word. God does.
Becoming an organ and eye donor speaks volumes about the kind of person you were. Even in passing, you gave others the priceless gift of life and hope. That is an extraordinary legacy, one that reflects selflessness, compassion, and humanity. Long after your heartbeat ceased on earth, your life continued through the lives of others. What an incredible testimony.
Our family misses you deeply. Holidays aren’t quite the same. Family gatherings carry an empty chair that reminds us of your absence. Yet your name is spoken with love, your memory is cherished with pride, and your life continues to inspire us to love harder, forgive quicker, and treasure every moment we have with one another.
DeVille, I pray that your memory challenges each of us to live with purpose. To be kind. To serve others. To honor God with our lives. And to remember that every day we are given is a gift.
One day, by God’s grace, I look forward to seeing you again. Until then, your memory remains safely tucked within my heart. You will never be forgotten. You will always be my nephew, and I will always be proud to call you family.
Rest peacefully, my beloved nephew.
With everlasting love,
Your Uncle Kenny

Deville, Man, you never gave up. You loved your kids and family and kept teaching yourself new things and working smart to care for them. I remember our last conference call. You were building a new real estate company—Morrow & Sons. You reached out for expertise to add to your plan. So Smart. So proud of you. Your boys will always be too.
