A life remembered

A Tribute to Liv

Liv was an independent, friendly, vivacious, kind, beautiful, and artistic girl who cared deeply for all around her and wanted everyone to be included. Her zest for life and her enthusiasm for her friends was palpable. In June, just after finishing her junior year at Thomas Worthington High School, Liv was rushed to the hospital with a headache and vomiting. In the ER we learned she had bleeding on her brain. She was taken in for emergency surgery. Unfortunately, the bleeding had caused her brain to swell so much that it caused irreparable damage. Having spoken to Liv about organ donation when she got her driver’s license, we knew she would want to be a donor.

Liv became a donor on June 4, 2018 at the age of 17. We later learned that Liv suffered from an arteriovascular malformation (AVM), a rare tangle of abnormal blood vessels connecting arteries and veins in the brain.

How do you sum up in words how you will miss a lifetime of unformed stories and missed memories?

When Liv was around no one could be friendless. I have yet to encounter another person who makes everyone around them feel completely at ease. She had an endless abundance of love, care, and enthusiasm that was impossible to ignore and a joy to encounter. To this day I am inspired by her love for her family, friends, and the world around her. Liv was the best human, and I in her honor do my best to be a good one.

Liv is a radiant soul. Her artistic capabilities intertwined with her unique personality created a textbook example of originality. At 15, she showed me how to be confident, and authentic. She’d make anyone feel seen and heard, and that was one of her many gifts. Her legacy lives on through silly, yet creative gestures. Whether it is a giant Kermit the frog, painted river rocks, or tiny plastic penguins sprinkled around Europe. She left quite the mark, and she occasionally gives us the most beautiful rainbows. Not a day goes by where Liv doesn’t inspire me to be a good human, and I hope it inspires others as well.
